Chef's Dinner Series Presents... Chef Rafa of SUR Barra Nikkei
March 16 2024 | 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM132 Mulberry Street, No. 502, New York, NY 10013
Chef's Dinner Series is pleased to celebrate the dynamic cuisine of Puerto Rico by featuring rising stars in the vibrant gastronomic scene of the island. We are honored to present Chef Rafael Ubior of SUR Barra Nikkei, named by Eater as "one of the 24 essential restaurants in San Juan". His menu for this evening will focus on the conscious consumption of our local marine ecosystems through his concept of Nikkei cuisine, fusing Japanese techniques with his culinary memoir of cooking in Peru.
Please consider joining us for this special evening of fine dining and intimate conversation featuring a 4-course tasting menu professionally paired with exquisite wines. The venue is a special place, too; Chef's Dinner Table is a private culinary salon tucked away in a downtown NYC loft offering the ultimate experience in luxury private dining.
Note: all food, drink and gratuities are included with your ticket purchase, so you don't need to worry about settling a bill at the end of the night.

ABOUT THE CHEF
Chef Rafael Ubior Serrati, or Rafa, as everybody calls him, is a self-taught cook who began his culinary career in 2008 as an assistant cook in a catering company. He went on to work for one of the most iconic banquets restaurants, Restaurante Antonio, and was on the opening team of the well-respected Santaella, in Santurce. Always searching for more, in 2017 Rafa moves to Lima, Perú to start the most incredible and humbling experience of his life. After staging with chefs Gastón Ocurio and Rafael Osterling in Peru, chef Rafa Ubior returned to his native Puerto Rico in 2019 to open Sur, a Nikkei spot in the heart of Santurce. Here, he fuses classic Japanese and Peruvian cuisines with locally sourced ingredients and a strong focus on sustainably sourced fish.
Chef Rafa believes in pushing boundaries, making a difference, and bringing smiles through his food. He also acknowledges SUR is the sum of the passion that lives in every team member, particularly his extraordinary sous chef, Joesph Dávila and assistant sous chef, Jerardine Romero, Naysha Serrano, administrative/marketing manager, and his wife Angélica Marrero, who is in charge of everything behind the scenes.
